THE FADING ORIGINALITY OF ART
THE FADING ORIGINALITY OF ART [Part 1]
For the past few days, the one thing that has been surrounding my mind is ‘‘originality’’. THE FADING ORIGINALITY OF ART.
Hey dear all, hope you guys are doing well and great. It's been more than a week since we started discussing the Brothers Grimm's tales in our children's literature classes. The discussion is based on their writing of the tales, their writing style, and the differences between the earlier edition and the later editions of their tales.
We were discussing from the text Introduction: rediscovering the original tales of the Brothers Grimm. Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm, were known for their famous work ‘‘Kinder- und Hausmärchen’’, which is a collection of German folk tales. The tales aren’t originally from them; they collected them through various means. From homemakers, young women and from various other people. They didn’t collect the stories by going out. It all came to them on their table. They wrote the stories from the perspective of that respective storyteller.
In the initial editions, it has a raw and violent nature; to be more precise, the initial editions weren't influenced by any factors, ‘‘The Societal norms’’, ‘‘The principles and the values’’. Those tales were just pure, the true tales from the tellers, right from the teller's perspective. Those tales don't have the ambition to meet the expectations of the target audience.
I'm not blaming or criticizing their later editions; every version of their tales is great. But here, I'm talking about the ORIGINAL tales that they wrote in the beginning. The true version. The original tales. The vanished truth.
It happens in every form of ART, our norms, principles, values, and ethics edit the true version. It's not easy to master any form of ART. Art cannot be concluded in those three letters. Yes, we are influenced by many factors, but does it mean we have to erase our true nature?
Erasing the true form is more like erasing our true thinking, then everything that comes out of our mind is originally from someone else. I usually write based on what influences me and not what truly is me.
Even this post is also underwent editing not only for grammar. I cannot resist myself but to delete several lines here and there, something...within me told me.
To be continued…
