The Tragedy of Wayanad

The first article I came across today was in the "Metro Plus" section, and I initially planned to write my blog post about something related to food. However, my thoughts changed as soon as I turned to the front page and saw the news that had shattered the entire nation over the past two days. I don't normally take much interest in listening to the news but yesterday, while browsing YouTube, I stumbled upon a documentary about the landslide in Wayanad. Watching that video made me realize the severity of this disaster. Looking at the current situation there today, it's truly heart-wrenching. Nearly 200 people are missing, hundreds are injured, and many have lost their lives. Thinking about them makes my eyes moist; people are losing their loved ones, and some, don't even know if their family members are alive. The fact that it's still raining is making it even more challenging for the rescue efforts.

Amidst all this, there's a back-and-forth between central and state ministers, with each side blaming the other. In my opinion, now is not the time for blaming each other. There are lives at stake, and the focus should be on saving people rather than playing the blame game. While it's true that a warning was issued to the state seven days ago, and the state government should have been more cautious, right now, the priority should be on rescue and relief efforts. The changing weather conditions are making the situation even more difficult.

It's devastating to learn that Wayanad ranks fifth on the ISRO landslide atlas. All we can do is pray for Kerala and the strength of its people. Let's pray for the safety of those affected and hope that there are no more natural disasters that threaten the lives of people.
